Got around to updating the firmware on this today. It's now properly increasing font size when requested, so that's good.

Authorised it with Adobe Digital Editions and stuck a copy of a troublesome book on -- The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell. That works okay at the basic level. However, this is a book where the publisher has set a fairly small font and wide margins. The font size can be increased, but because the baseline is very small even the largest font setting results in text much smaller than I know the device will render. And the margins get far too wide, wasting about a third of the width of the display.

This is a basic problem with the Adobe ePub renderer, and I saw it with the Cybook Opus too. It effectively makes the Kobo of limited use to me, as you can never tell in advance if the publisher has decided to hard-code these things or not.

I would be extremely curious to see the same book loaded on an iPad. Would obviously have to strip the DRM first, but I'm taking a guess that Apple haven't used Adobe's renderer...
